July brings new application milestones for legislation already adopted. The type approval framework under Regulation (EU) 2018/858 moves towards electronic certificates of conformity, while the General Safety Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 extends certain requirements to new vehicles.
These are key developments to consider when planning market entry. The vehicle category and approval route determine which timetable applies to your project.
015 JULY · DOCUMENTATION
eCoC becomes part of your operations.
The manufacturer must make the certificate of conformity available as structured electronic data to the authority that granted the whole-vehicle type approval, free of charge and without undue delay after manufacture.
The exchange uses EUCARIS and standardised IVI messages. A PDF certificate does not replace this data flow. Potential exemptions for national small series and simplified procedures for small series must also be reviewed.

027 JULY · ACTIVE SAFETY
Advanced driver distraction warning.
ADDW reaches its application milestone for new vehicles in categories M and N under the general approval regime. For new types, the reference date was 7 July 2024.
This requirement should be distinguished from driver drowsiness and attention warning.

037 JULY · M1 AND N1
Emergency braking for pedestrians and cyclists.
The second phase of advanced emergency braking extends detection to pedestrians and cyclists ahead of the vehicle. Requirement B4 reaches the application date for new vehicles under the general approval regime.

047 JULY · TYRES
Performance when the tyre is worn, too.
Requirement C10 includes the assessment of worn tyres with the date C timetable. Tyre selection must take account of the requirements and transitional provisions applicable to the tyre class and approval.
A specific transition applies: new tyres approved under the 02 or 03 series of UN R117 and manufactured before 7 July 2026 may continue to be fitted to vehicles in use until 6 January 2029.

PROTECTING VULNERABLE ROAD USERS
Enlarged head impact zone: check the transition.
Requirement B2 is listed with date C for M1 and N1, but includes an important condition. Type approvals issued under the specific provisions for the 2,100 mm wrap-around distance limit continue to be accepted until 1 September 2029, under the transitional provisions of the 04 series of UN R127.
